Natural Sciences or Mathematics AS: Computer Science Option

The Computer Science option prepares students to transfer into the junior year of a baccalaureate program in computer science or a related area such as computer engineering or computer information systems. It includes required and elective courses in current programming languages, discrete mathematics, data structures and algorithms, database systems, system analysis and design, and computer organization.

Computer science occupations include teaching positions at all levels, software developers, database administrators, hardware engineers, systems analysts, network architects, and information security analysts.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

  1. Apply knowledge and skills to create algorithmic solutions to problems.
  2. Become competent in using a programming language to solve problems.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for the practice of the discipline.
  4. Understand the components of the computer and the way that they work.
  5. Analyze a problem, and identify and define the computing requirements appropriate to its solution

Social Science Elective*


One general education course selected from the following fields: Economics (ECO); Geography (GEO); Political Science (POL); Psychology (PSY); Sociology (SOC) and Anthropology (ANT). Recommended: ECO-101 or PSY-101
