Forensic Science Certificate of Achievement

This program provides a broad view of forensics as it pertains to investigations, adjudication and evidentiary matters. This program explores the fundamental scientific and mathematical concepts of investigative practices, evidence collection, and the guiding legal principles. Career opportunities: Federal, State, County, and Municipal Crime Scene Units, Forensics laboratories, and Medical Examiner’s Office.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

  1. State and explain the fundamental concepts of chemistry, biology, geometry, and physics as these pertain to forensic investigations.
  2. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Federal Rules of Evidence guidelines for the presentation of expert testimony, forensic evidence and lay witnesses.
  3. Describe the role of laboratories and other scientific and medical services including chemistry, toxicology, serology, biology, odontology, ballistics, and psychiatry in forensic investigations.
  4. Apply appropriate investigative procedures and techniques in collecting analyzing and preserving physical evidence from a crime scene.
