Liberal Arts AA - Early Childhood Education


Code: AA.EARLY.CHILD

The Early Childhood Education degree is an academic program that leads to transfer to teacher preparation programs for Preschool through 3rd grade teaching certification or supporting students to enter the workforce as an early childhood professional. Students who choose this program are interested in teaching and working with children in early childhood classroom environments through 3rd grade.

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)

  1. Apply theories of development, teaching approaches, and effective pedagogical strategies to meet the individual needs of learners.
  2. Utilize developmentally appropriate instructional approaches and classroom management strategies to positively guide young learners.
  3. Create and lead lessons and activities which address students’ developmental and skill levels, and their linguistic, family, and socio-cultural backgrounds.
  4. Develop written lesson plans and themed-activities to foster early literacy, language arts and mathematics skills development, social and emotional development, scientific thinking, and physical development.
  5. Demonstrate effective observation and assessment techniques for evaluating individual students and classroom environments.
  6. Identify societal issues and current trends in education that influence learning, achievement, school readiness, and early childhood education.
